Dirt Dog | Our Story
Two brothers. One shopping cart. A name that stuck.
It didn't start in a kitchen. It started on a Downtown L.A. sidewalk in the early '90s, with a flat grill and a hot dog their mom told them not to eat.
The shopping cart grill
Timothy Cam's parents ran a business in Downtown L.A. when a woman appeared out front selling bacon-wrapped hot dogs off a flat grill built from a shopping cart. His mom said no — cars driving by, kicking up dirt — so Timothy and his brother Simon bought one in secret. "It was utterly amazing."
Stop eating dirt
They spent the rest of that summer sneaking back for more, and their mom kept telling them to stop eating dirt. Simon thought that was funny — and started calling them Dirt Dogs. The name stuck.
From sidewalk to restaurant
That childhood obsession became a full menu rooted in L.A. street culture — DUI Dogs, Elote Dogs, birria tacos, carne asada fries, deep-fried Oreos with horchata whipped cream. The streets gave us the recipe.
L.A. to Vegas and beyond
Dirt Dog now runs across Southern California — Commerce, Downey, Long Beach, Gardena — and straight down the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street. One story. Every city.
